The Project

We’ve been working with the PDA and associated brands for over three years and have produced everything from business cards to quarterly 24-page member magazines, campaign materials and stand designs. For the larger projects we go into their offices for up to a week – working as an in-house designer. We also work remotely from our offices on the smaller quick-win or ad hoc pieces.

This project was a particular challenge – not just because each panel is 3m square because the brief was very specific in what they didn’t want. After several versions, we settled on this illustrative piece with cartoon characters holding a range of icons (that had already been used in other pieces) to demonstrate the way that the PDA support their members. It was also a challenge because the characters had to be very specific: a certain ratio of women to men and a wide range of people from different ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds. This project (including other pieces not shown here) took in excess of 30 hours to complete.

When creating stand designs the core thing is to make the design stand out and deliver a message at some distance but overwhelm when the delegate arrives at the stand. Simplicity is often the key but not at the cost of watering down the impact of the message.

What The Client Said:

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Stuart on a couple of projects recently, and he’s our go to guy for ad hoc pieces of work now. He is super helpful and knowledgeable when it comes to creating engaging, fresh looking layouts and graphics, which really captured the look and feel we sought for our member magazine and conference comms.

Stuart is easy to work with and makes sure he understands both the brief, timeframes and the culture too. He goes the extra mile to help clients and this results in him feeling like a part of the team.
