Welcome to 2017 and a Happy New Year! I’m going to be really honest and say that 2016 was one of the toughest, most challenging years we’ve had as a business. Circumstances outside of our control meant that a lot of the things I wanted to achieve did not come to fruition and I spent much of my time being reactive rather than proactive.
But 2016 was also a year of growth. We said a sad goodbye to our apprentice, Josh, who has gone on to bigger and better things but we were also able to say a very warm hello to Be Peters who has joined the team here as a part-time creative designer and is also supporting the marketing of the business too. It’s been a delight to have her on board and she is also shaking things up a bit – which is great!
Those who know me well know that I love to name each year after an animal. For me it helps provide a visual representation of the year and a symbol of my hopes, dreams and aspirations. So I’m really excited to announce that 2017 is going to be Year of the Falcon.
Let me explain why. Falcons are small raptors, agile and highly mobile; adapting well to their surroundings and making the most of the environment around them. But falcons also see a bigger picture. As they fly over the landscape they see it all – rivers, woodland, hills etc. They, quite literally, see the wood for the trees. Lastly, when out hunting, falcons have total focus. You may well have seen kestrels hovering over motorway verges, focusing on one small patch of grass, before folding back their wings and dropping like a stone. Watching a Peregrine Falcon dive at over 220mph as it focusses on its quarry is a sight to behold.
So what that mean for us? We’re a small creative company but that means that we can be agile and quick to respond and adapt. And a large part of our role with our clients is to see the bigger picture – helping them think, see and act with clarity and confidence.
But, for me, this year is all about focus and determination. I know what I want to achieve this year and I am resolutely determined to achieve some quite bold targets. The vast majority of our marketing and communication in 2017 will be aimed at significantly growing our not-for-profit client base – a sector that is exceptionally close to my heart for reasons that I will cover in a follow-up blog next week.
I have no idea what this year will bring – certainly highs and lows – but I know that with tenacity, determination and focus Audacious Creative will truly be able to soar in 2017.
